It doesn't matter if you were injured building jets for Boeing, writing code for Microsoft, hauling logs for Weyerhaeuser, or working for any employer in Washington State: If your doctor says your workplace injury or illness prevents you for returning to work, you have a right to receive workers' compensation benefits.

If you are having difficulty receiving workers' comp benefits your doctor believes you qualify for, please contact the workers' compensation lawyer at Keith S. Douglass & Associates, LLP. Our workman's comp legal team is dedicated to helping injured workers receive the benefits they deserve.

Your Doctor Decides

Only your doctor has the authority to decide if your injury or illness makes you physically unable to work. Your employer or your workers' compensation claims manager may pressure you to return to work. Without your regular wages, you may be highly motivated to return to work as soon as possible—even before you are physically capable of performing your job duties. It is your doctor's opinion that matters. Your physician knows that going back to work too soon may only aggravate your condition and delay a complete recovery.

Your doctor's opinion is crucial at several stages of the workers' compensation process. He or she must file the workers' compensation claim by submitting a report to either the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) or your Self-Insured employer.

If your claim is allowed, your doctor must certify that you continue to be unable to work in order for you to receive time-loss compensation benefits,

You'll need a doctor's note to return to work when you are physically able. Your doctor may also be involved in the Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) process by rating the degree of loss of function of a body part.

Over the years, we have talked with many injured workers who jeopardized their workers' comp benefits because they didn't fully understand the complex worker's comp (L&I) process. The consequences of mismanaging a workers' compensation claim can be devastating. Don't risk losing the compensation you deserve. Contact the WA workers' compensation claim legal team at Keith S. Douglass & Associates, LLP, for a free consultation about your specific workers' comp issues.
