If your doctor certifies that you are ready to return to work on a part-time or permanent basis, but your injury prevents you from performing the job of injury, you may be eligible to receive vocational rehabilitation services through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries or Self-Insured employer. If your injury makes it impossible to perform your old job, or any other work for your current employer, your claim manager may request a vocational assessment of your employability by a vocational rehabilitation counselor. A vocational rehabilitation counselor will review your work history for the previous fifteen years. He or she will also consider your age, education level, interests, skills, and physical and mental capabilities in an attempt to match your abilities with work available in your Labor Market. Labor Market is defined as work available within a 50-mile radius of your home. If there is no work that you are physically capable of performing within your work history, you may be eligible to retrain for a different type of work. Vocational rehabilitation in Washington State is limited to a maximum of 52 weeks and $4,000. It is intended cover the costs of a college course, a technical school program or on-the-job training.
